Elegant wedding couple in historic venue staircase.

Winning with Brooklynn & Aaron at Carlton Towers

Having taken last year off from entering wedding images into the Guild’s monthly competition, I decided to start again this year, and the first month brought some fantastic news that I’m thrilled to share with you. I’ve won an award for a photograph taken at the beautiful Carlton Towers, featuring the lovely Brooklynn and Aaron on their wedding day last year. What makes this win particularly sweet is the uniqueness of the shot, taken just inside the main entrance, a spot often bypassed by wedding photographers for more conventional backdrops.

With its breathtaking architecture, Carlton Towers offers countless picturesque settings, but there’s something special about the main entrance. Its historic stonework and the grandeur of its construction present a magnificent canvas. In this award-winning photograph, I wanted to capture not just the beauty of the venue but the essence of Brooklynn and Aaron’s relationship in a setting that tells a story of elegance and timelessness.

For this particular shot, I played with the dynamics of space and composition by separating the bride and groom. Aaron stands casually, exuding a relaxed elegance, while Brooklynn is seated on the marble steps. Her stunning wedding dress flows gracefully down the steps, creating a beautiful contrast against the rugged stonework of the entrance. This juxtaposition highlights the details of Brooklynn’s dress and frames the couple in a moment that feels both intimate and grand.

Winning this award from The Guild is a tremendous honour, and I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to the judges for recognising this photograph. It’s a testament to the idea that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places, encouraging us to look beyond the obvious to find unique perspectives and stories.

A huge thank you also goes to Brooklynn and Aaron for allowing me to capture their special day and for their willingness to embrace this unconventional choice of location. Your trust and openness to creativity made this award-winning shot possible, and moments like these truly highlight the joy and artistry of wedding photography.

This award reminds me of the endless possibilities that come with looking at the world through a lens, ready to capture the beauty in every corner, no matter how overlooked it might be.

Here’s to more unexpected discoveries and the beautiful stories they tell.

Until next time, keep exploring and capturing the world in its most beautiful light!
