As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’m always chuffed to head over to Hackness Grange. It’s a venue that perfectly balances elegance with a laid-back atmosphere—much like Sally and Doug! Their day was a masterclass in how to have a stress-free wedding that still feels like a grand occasion. I’ve asked them a few questions about their experience, from finding the dress to choosing their first dance song.

How did you Choose your Venue?

"Hackness Grange was the first wedding venue we went to and we fell in love with it immediately. We didn't even look elsewhere."

Tell me About the Proposal

"Doug and I went to Whitby and he actually got down on one knee and proposed to me in front of everyone."

How did you Choose your Dress?

"I got my dress from The Wedding Room. Hannah, who helped me, picked a dress and my exact words were 'Oh no that's not really my type!' I tried other's on but Hannah insisted I should just try it on and guess what - it was the one I picked to wear on my special day."

Tell me About the Flowers and Bouquet

I knew what I wanted regarding the wedding flowers; Autumn colours and I was recommended to have Lynn (Tying the Knot). She did an amazing job with all the flowers and decorations.

How did you Personalise Your Day?

"Doug and I personally chose every song and music we wanted to be played. We wanted a mixture of music as our guests were different ages."

How did you Choose your First Dance Song?

"We chose our first dance song after we watched a movie, we both loved the song and said that had to be the one."

Best Wedding Moment

"Best wedding moment was all of it."

What will you Remember Most?

"We will never forget Tony (Doug's brother), dressing up as a lady and singing 'It Should Have Been Me'. I don't think the guests will forget it either!"

Tips for Other Wedding Couples

"My tip for other couples is to take in every moment because the day goes so fast."

Which is your Favourite Wedding Photo?

"Every photo was amazing. I would highly recommend Dale, he was fantastic ."

Which Moment do you wish you Could Relive?

"I would want to relive it all! I often say to people I would love to do it all again."

What Would you do Differently?

"We would not have done anything any different, we loved it."

Huge thanks to Sally and Doug for sharing their story (and for being so much fun to work with!). Their day at Hackness Grange was a perfect reminder of why I love what I do—it wasn't just about the beautiful venue, but the genuine, unscripted moments between people who clearly mean the world to each other.
