Geneviève & Chris had a fantastic wedding at The Hospitium in York. I was delighted to be a part of their special day and capture all the moments for them in this beautiful city centre wedding venue.
From a photography point of view, The Hospitium is perfect for wedding photography. The medieval charm of the building and the Museum Gardens which surround it provide the perfect scene for a wedding. The golden hour photographs of the bride and groom were a particular highlight of the day for me.
Here are some details of Geneviève & Chris's Hospitium wedding, in their own words.
How did you Choose Your Venue?
"Back when we were looking to move to York, one of the first places we visited was the museum gardens. Myself and Chris loved it and I even said to Chris 'Could you imagine getting married here?'. Fast forward a few years and Genevieve’s nail tech suggested it as a Venue - we didn’t even realise we could get married there. We visited it and it instantly felt perfect."
"Absolutely AMAZING! Dale captured every special moment beautifully and made us feel so comfortable throughout the day. Dale slipped into the background of the wedding, allowing us and all the guests to simply enjoy ourselves and forget there was a camera there, whilst never missing a moment to capture the perfect photo."

Tell me About the Proposal
"I proposed to Genevieve on a beach in Guernsey. This beach is somewhere we used to go regularly and was one of our first date locations when we still lived there. It was around Christmas time (Genevièves favourite time of year) so we decided to go for a walk with Luna (her family dog) and I popped the question - somewhere for just me and her, just how we both wanted it, personal and private."
How did you Choose Your Dress?
"I had a few ideas of what I liked. Something elegant with a bit of sparkle (as I am a bit of a magpie). I went in with a few ideas and actually ended up picking a dress my mum recommended over one I originally had my heart set on. The feeling I got when I started putting the dress on was indescribable and it was just perfect."
Tell me About the Flowers and Bouquet
"We wanted something classy yet simple. The bridesmaids bouquets were hydrangeas which were the grooms favourite flowers. These were also incorporated into the brides bouquet with roses and freesias. Freesias are the brides and brides mum favourite flower and the bouquet cascaded slightly as inspired by the brides mums wedding bouquet."
How did you Personalise Your Day?
"We arranged everything, nothing was left to the decision of others, even down to every song. Every element was personal and special to us in some way as we spent the time ourselves deciding on every song, flower, jewellery, cake and even down to the wedding sign/guest book which now hangs on the wall in our living room, had meaning to us.
Dale was also a big part of that, he made us feel comfortable from the get go. His calm and 'nothing is not too much trouble' nature added to our day being so special."
How did you Choose Your First Dance Song?
"When we went on our first date we realised we had very similar music taste. As a result the song of our relationship at the start and what became our favourite song was 'Start of Something Good' by Daughtry which solidified the relationship between us perfectly. This seemed fitting as the first song as a married couple, symbolising a new beginning."
Best Wedding Moment
"We don’t have a best wedding moment, we loved every element of the day. That’s how we always wanted to feel about our wedding day."
What will you Remember Most?
"All of it, it honestly was so special and personal to us and anyone you ask - would say the same."
Tips for Other Wedding Couples
"Relax, make it personal, don’t worry about all the extras you don’t care about. It’s your day so don’t get hung up on what others may think/expect.
It doesn’t need to be expensive, it just needs to be about the two of you. Our logic was always - if we won’t remember it in 10 years time, do we really need it."
Which is Your Favourite Wedding Photo?
"All of them. We love them all, it’s hard to decide. There are hundreds we could select, so picking just one would be a difficult task. Dale captured the day perfectly. However, our wedding album begins with a picture of us both walking away from our venue at sunset; a perfect photo. Also us both stood down the aisle getting married with the aisle decorated and family around us, is also very special."
Which Moment do you Wish you Could Relive?
"The whole day!"
What Would you do Differently?
"Extend it! We simply couldn’t get enough."
Thank you so much Geneviève & Chris for sharing your story and wedding tips. Below are a few highlights from their big day.
